Our Owners Charter The Responsible Dog Owners Charter
The charter is underpinned by the principles of both the UK Animal Welfare Act 2006 (legal) and The European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals. Most dog owners don’t need a charter to tell them that dogs are good for us, or to tell them how to act responsibly with a dog, but for us all to live harmoniously very owner should sign a declaration to show they have a duty of care towards both the animals they own and the community in which they live.
Principles of this canine charter:
1) As a potential owner you will not simply purchase the first puppy you see. 2) You will not support the breeding of animals kept in poor conditions 3) You will research the breeds that interest you before buying any dog or puppy 4) You will not buy from pet stores that support cruel breeding practices. 5) You will insure your pet with a suitable pet insurance company 6) You will register with a veterinary surgeon and have the pet examined regularly 7) You will seek veterinary help for your pet whenever necessary and ALWAYS in an emergency 8) You will feed the pet a suitable quality diet and maintain its normal weight 9) You will always keep your pet on a leash when in public and have visible ID 10) You will microchip or tattoo your pet as soon as possible 11) You will NEVER permit the breeding for profit of your pet 12) You will ALWAYS clean up after your dog fouls 13) You will maintain an effective worming and flea control treatment 14) You will keep your pet clean and healthy at all times 15) You will keep your pet in a safe environment when travelling in a vehicle 16) You will NEVER abuse or mistreat your pet 17) You will seek help if a behavioural issue occurs 18) You will maintain an effective vaccine protocol inline with your vet 19) You will NEVER permit your dog to attack others in the community 20) You will always keep your pet safe, secure and happy.
